Heightmark is a private iPhone elevation journal and travel atlas. It records the elevation supplied by iPhone Location Services where you are standing or recreates a mark from one geotagged photo, then organizes every saved place in an atlas and a true-scale elevation panorama.

Who is it for?

Travelers, hikers, climbers, photographers, and anyone who wants a private record of places organized by elevation rather than a public social feed.

Is it a GPS altimeter?

Yes, as a familiar category term. The actual elevation and vertical-accuracy estimate come from iPhone Location Services; Heightmark also saves the place, coordinates, time, optional photo, and note as a reusable mark.

How is it different from a travel map?

A travel map shows where you have been. Heightmark adds the vertical dimension: every mark can be compared with world landmarks and placed on one true-scale panorama from below sea level toward Everest.

Can it use old photos?

Yes. One original photo that still contains location metadata can recreate a place and its elevation. Photos saved from chat apps or the web may have that metadata removed.

You can keep recording marks for free. Heightmark supports iPhone, iOS 17 and later, English and Simplified Chinese, and displays elevation in meters.

Does Heightmark need an internet connection?
No. Elevation and coordinates come from iPhone Location Services, and marks are stored locally, so you can record and browse offline. An internet connection can improve place-name lookup.
How accurate is the elevation?
Heightmark displays the elevation and current vertical-accuracy estimate supplied by iPhone Location Services. Accuracy varies with the device and surroundings; retake important readings under open sky. The app is not a replacement for professional surveying or safety equipment.
Does Heightmark track a whole route or workout?
No. Heightmark saves individual elevation marks. It does not continuously record a route, calculate elevation gain, or track workout statistics.
Where is my data stored, and does it sync to the cloud?
Marks, coordinates, photos, and notes stay in the app's on-device sandbox. The developer does not receive or collect them and does not operate a cloud-sync service. Apple device or iCloud backups may include app data according to your system settings; deleting the app removes its local data from the device.
Which devices, languages, and elevation units are supported?
Heightmark supports iPhone with iOS 17 or later. The interface is available in English and Simplified Chinese, follows the system language by default, and can also be switched in the app. Elevation is displayed in meters; there is currently no feet setting.
Can I delete a mark?
Yes. Open any mark's detail page and tap delete in the top-right; its photo and note are removed with it.
Can I use Heightmark for free, and is there a subscription?
You can keep recording marks for free. The free version adds up to 10 marks to the Atlas; additional marks remain saved in Not in Atlas. An optional one-time Full Version purchase adds every mark to the Atlas and Panorama and unlocks every premium sharing template. There is no subscription.
