Privacy Policy
Heightmark (“the app”) is a local-first iOS application. Your records are managed by your device and Apple system services; the developer creates no account and does not receive your records. This policy explains how the app handles information.
Summary
- The developer does not collect, upload, or sell your personal data.
- The app has no servers and no account system.
- Altitude, location, photos, and notes are stored in the app’s on-device sandbox; system backups may include app data.
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs are included.
Local storage
Your altitude marks, coordinates, photos, and notes are stored in the app’s on-device sandbox. The app does not upload these records to developer-operated servers, and the developer cannot access them. If device or iCloud Backup is enabled in iOS, Apple system backups may include app data and are governed by your Apple backup settings and Apple’s privacy policy.
Location
The app requests location access “When In Use” to measure your current altitude and record a mark’s coordinates. To turn coordinates into a place name, the app calls Apple’s system geocoding service; Apple processes those coordinates under its privacy policy. The developer does not receive, collect, or share this location data. You can revoke permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
Photos & camera
When you attach a photo to a mark, the app requests camera or photo-library access. Photos you choose or take are copied into the app’s on-device sandbox, and the app reads their location and capture-time metadata to reconstruct when and where the mark happened; those photos may appear in the app. Photo coordinates may be sent to Apple’s system geocoding service to obtain place names. The app does not upload photos to a developer-operated service, and it never moves or modifies the originals in your library. System backups may include these files according to your iOS backup settings. You can limit or revoke photo-library permission in system settings, and adding a photo is always optional.
Data we do not collect
The app collects no device identifiers, builds no user profiles, performs no cross-app or cross-site tracking, and contains no analytics or advertising frameworks. App preferences (such as appearance and font) are stored locally via iOS UserDefaults for the app’s own use only.
Third parties
The app embeds no third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs and shares no records with the developer or advertisers. Place-name lookup and optional system backups use Apple system services and are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Data deletion & your control
You can delete any mark from its detail page to remove it with its photo and note. If a system file operation temporarily fails, the app records the pending file and retries cleanup on a later launch. Deleting the app removes its local data from the device. Copies in system backups are managed by your Apple backup settings and Apple’s retention rules. The developer does not hold your records, so no record-deletion request to the developer is needed.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted in the app or on this page.
